Day of Wrath coordinator arrested and coerced by police in Kyiv

On Saturday night, the police detained the organizer of the Day of Wrath protest rally and leader of the Common Cause NGO, Oleksandr Danyliuk. Danyliuk was interrogated by the police for 2 hours in a van outside Verkhovna Rada, Common Cause May 15 website report runs.

The police accused Oleksandr Danyliuk of public order, saying the rally was unsanctioned.

They also threatened to detain him if the rally continued, as Spilna Sprava promised, on Sunday.

After his release, Danyliuk said the rally will continue on Sunday, with protesters spending the nihgt in sleeping bags.

Spilna Sprava (Common Cause) wants to reelect the president and Vekhovna Rada for their failure to carry out reforms in Ukraine.

It also stands for curtailing the power of the president and giving more say to the people in controlling the executive and fighting corruption.
